Doug Caldwell is a widely-respected speaker, writer, industry analyst and pricing expert with unparalleled expertise with global small parcel shipping and international mailing. Launching his trade experience more than 25 years ago with the United States Postal Service, Doug was assigned to marketing and management roles at USPS Headquarters.
In 2000, Doug joined AFMS Logistics Management Group as Senior Pricing Analyst, and was promoted to Senior Vice President in 2003. AFMS is responsible for negotiating global transportation agreements valued at more than $500 million each year. During Doug’s tenure, AFMS grew substantially, becoming the most prominent transportation firm of its kind, and appearing on the INC 500 list of fastest-growing US companies in 2004 and 2005.
Joining ParcelPool.com / ParcelResearch.com in late 2005, Doug began focusing exclusively on Parcel Research in mid-2008 to concentrate his attention on global small parcel. In 2009 Parcel Research teamed up with ICC Logistics and PANC Group to provide the package-level detail analysis of J&R Music World’s North American small parcel shipments. That collaborative effort led to a better than expected outcome, producing a better than 18.5% yearly (three year) reduction off the music retailer’s domestic small parcel rates.
Shortly after completing J&R Music World’s successful carrier negotiations, Doug focused the Parcel Research team on a series of small parcel benchmarking, analysis and carrier negotiations for Honeywell International. The year-long, multifaceted engagement led to major rate reductions in Honeywell’s global carrier agreements, particularly in the company’s international small parcel rates.
A highly sought-after industry expert, Doug is in constant demand to serve as a panelist or keynote speaker for numerous industry-related events. His insights into industry trends are frequently cited by news organizations such as The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times of London, The Atlanta Journal Constitution, Der Spiegel, Traffic World, Forbes, Business Week, NBC Nightly News and numerous trade publications.
Doug has worked with a wide variety of parcel shipping clients, including Reader’s Digest, J&R Music and Computer World, Honeywell International, Shaklee Corporation, QVC, Capital Group, Newegg.com, Quicksilver, Panasonic, Amazon.com, Toyota, Honda of America and Sony.

David began his career in mailing and small package logistics in the mid-’90 as a manager with the U.S. Postal Service’s marketing team. A former community newspaper publisher, David decided to leave the post office in 2000 for the more creative pastures of online publishing and web development.
In 2006, Doug Caldwell (David’s former boss at the Postal Service) recruited David to join ParcelPool.com / ParcelResearch.com as a research analyst. They quickly realized that intensive data mining, deep analysis, cleaning and organizing highly dimensional data were among the primary components necessary to obtain the clearest understanding of international small parcel logistics.
In 2008, Doug and Dave took the research side of the business solo to focus on global small package shipping, transportation networks, pricing and market share.
In 2010, David played a key role in achieving multimillion dollar rate reductions in the global small parcel carrier agreements for a major multinational shipper. The multifaceted, fourteen month project encompassed benchmarking, RFP preparation, package-level detail analysis, intensive data mining, organization and analysis, and simultaneous negotiations with five major small package carriers.
Building on business processes that resulted in such dramatic cost reductions in the shipper's global small parcel spend, David is currently fine-tuning Parcel Research's global small parcel rating engine and routing guide to replicate similar cost reductions for shippers with significant international small package shipping operations.
